CHERRYPICKERRACING.COM TOP RIDER WINNER Boucher Wins Expert Women's Cup Open
Congratulations to Marie-Josée Boucher for being Cherrypickerracing.com's Contingency Winner for RACE Superseries Round 7, brought to you by Rider's Choice. As our winner, Boucher will receive a Dainese Back Protector and 4 litres of ELF Synthetic Oil courtesy of Rider's Choice in Toronto as well as a $25 gift certificate from the Red Rock Canyon Restaraunt in Belleville. 23/09/05 Shannonville, ON – Marie-Josée had an exceptional weekend, wrapping up the Pro Honda Oils Expert Women's Cup Open Championship and a 5th place finish in the Amateur 600 class. "I had a great race, one of my best performances this year under wet conditions." commented Boucher about the Amateur 600 race. "I had a great start and stayed up with the lead group. I was behind Mark Douglas in 5th and just tried to go as fast as possible and follow him. I didn't want to take a chance in passing Mark and risking a crash, so I just followed him and everything went great!" The competition in the Women's Cup races was greater than we've ever seen with California Superbike School instructor and accomplished racer, Misti Hurst making a surprise appearance. Geneviève Lesieur also arrived this weekend with a new Yamaha R6 and had really stepped up her pace. Rain showers Sunday morning would have the Womem's Cup 600 race run on a wet track. This would be Marie-Josée's first time racing in wet conditions. She had an unusually bad start, launching the bike in 2nd gear but pressed hard through turn 1 making up those lost positions. "I stayed 2nd behing Misty and decided to take it easy and not push too hard because I was assured of the Women's 600 championnship if I finished in front of the usual girls." said Boucher. The Women's Open race was run later in the day on a mostly dry track. "I had a great start for once and got in 1st place very fast and just opened up the throttle." said Marie-Josée. "I wanted to escape the pack following me and get a good lead. I knew Misti was very fast and I needed to get a head start while she was passing the others in the back. I had a great race until the red flag...again... I was really disappointed to have to restart the race again." "The 2nd start wasn't so good." added Boucher "I got stuck behing Shawna and needed to pass her fast but Genevieve Lesieur was also on my tail. We passed each other for 2 laps in turn 3 and on the straight away. When I got past Shawna, I just said screw it, I'm on the gas and I'm heading for the chequered flag!! I just gave it all I had and turned on the throttle, braking as deep as I could and trying not to make any mistakes! It turned out great, but I had to work hard to win that one too!" Women's Cup 600 race (in the rain!): "My first time racing in wet conditions.Yves and Alain did a great job in making the bike easy to ride and handle in the rain." "Didn't have a good start (started in 2nd gear, I was really nervous and forgot to put in 1st!!). I found myself in 4th in turn 1, so I decided to push hard and pass the girls on the outside of turn 1 and get in front as soon as possible. I stayed 2nd behing Misty and decided to take it easy and not push because I was assured of the Women's 600 championnship if I finished in front of the usual girls." Amateur 600 race: "I had a great race, one of my best performance this year under the wet conditions. I had a great start and stayed up with the firs faster group. I was behing Mark Douglas in 5th and just tried to go as fast as possible and follow him..didn't want to take a chance in going faster in the wet conditions to try to push and maybe pass him and fall, so I just followed him and everything went great!!" Women's Open race: "I had a great start for once and got in 1st place very fast and just opened up the throttle. I wanted to escape the pack following me to get a good lead. I knew Misty was very fast and I needed to get a head start while she was passing the others in the back. I had a great race until the red flag...again... I was really disappointed to have to restart again the race." "The 2nd start wasn't so good, I got stuck behing Shawna and needed to pass her fast but Genevieve Lesieur was also on my tale. We passed each other a for 2 laps in turn 3 and on the straight away. When I got past Shawna, I just said screw it, I'm on the gas and I'm heading for the black and white flag!! I just gave it all I had and turned on the throttle, breaked as far as I could and tried not to make any mistake!! It turned out great, but I had to work hard to win that one too!!" – Marie-Josée Boucher
